Steps in Production Planning and Control and its Characteristics

Production planning and control involves the organizations and planning of the manufacturing process. This production is implementing the plan and controlling the workflow of production.Production planning and control is a main problem of low productivity, inventory management and resource utilization.

Production planning is required for period, dispatch, inspection, quality of management, inventory management, supply management and equipment management. Production control ensures that production team can achieve required production target, optimum utilization of resources, quality management and cost savings. To ensure the quality of management and equipment management are available during the production times.

Steps:

ROUTING:

Routing is the one of the production plan.Routing process is deciding the route of work and operations. It is may be simple or complex. It depends on the production. In production it is automatic for job holder i.e., is very simple.

We have to focus the advance route. The quality and quantity of the product.WHo are to be used i.e, man ,machines like.Number and sequence of manufacturing plans and place of production.

The main purpose of this routing is find to the best path and cheapest sequences operations that should be followed by the industry.Routing gives method converting into raw-materials to goods.Routing main affected by human.

SCHEDULING:

It is one of the Production planning and control .Here mainly depending upon the time table.scheduling is mainly done for materials, machines etc.,It having some rules like to fix the work to do,In order to arrange the manufacturing operations based on priority,For each operation to fix the date and time.Majorly railways depending on the scheduling.Time is the major important in the scheduling.Mainly, where the products are produced in same time .

DISPATCHING:

Dispatching is one of the Production plan and control. It is action ,implementing stages.Dispatching means starting the process of production. It provides to start the work, and based on routing sheets and scheduling-sheets.

  • Problem of materials ,tools etc., for actual production.
  • Maintaining the records of each job.
  • Starting the control procedure
  • Recording the time of production

FOLLOW-UP:

Follow-up is last step ofProduction planning and control .It is controlling the device with evaluating the result. In the production process follow-up to determine the limitations, delay, defects etc.,It is determine the actual performances to compare the expected performances. It maintain the proper records of time, delay and it is used in future to control production.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • It is the planning and control of manufacturing process in an enterprise
  • All types of inputs like materials, men, machines are efficiently used for maintaining efficiency of the manufacturing process
  • Various factors of production are integrated to use them efficiently and economically.
  • The manufacturing process is organized in such a way that none of the work centres is either overworked or under worked. The division of work is undertaken very carefully so that every available element is properly utilized
  • The work is regulated from the first stage of procuring raw materials to the stage of finished goods.
